ODDS AND ENDS...
I've been writing short stories, now called flash fiction, when I'm ready to let my latest novel rest. I'd like to share one with you. It's called "Everything's Bigger in Texas." I'll send it to you for free if you fill out my email contact form. It's a lively mystery and shows how seriously some of us Texans take our state.

My writers critique group has grown to about a dozen writers of all genres. I can't stress enough how important it is to have another author read your work and point out plot holes, grammatical mistakes and typos before it's sent off for publication. These folks are all professionals and they have made my work so much easier. I encourage any writer to join a group or start one.

PROJECTS...
I've finished the second in my Pine Ridge Mystery series. It's a cozy titled (for the moment) Red Flag for Murder. The first, Fowl Deeds, was acquired for publication by The Wild Rose Press and is being published next Spring. Both novels feature fiesty protagonist Darby Alexander and her best friend Lurlene Culpepper. I'm excited about this series and hope you will enjoy it. More to come.

My second romantic suspense novel, The Deadly Tide, is in the process of rewriting and features a different protagonist from the spunky Geri Whittier in High Desert Heat. Danielle Garrison, a former Air Force cop, gets involved in murder when her best friend overdoses. Of course she meets two interesting and handsome men as she becomes entangled in love and murder.

I'd love to hear what books you're reading. Email me through the contact form on this page. Happy reading!

Taste of Texas

Nov 30, 2025 by Wanda J. McLaughlin

Since moving back to Texas, the home of my birth, almost three years ago, I've rediscovered vegetables I hadn't eaten in years. Things like okra, collard greens, Gulf shrimp, and blackberry cobbler. There's several restaurants in Kerrville, a small town just six miles east of where I live, that dish up these scrumptious dishes. And when I get a yen for german potato salad or bratwurst, Fredericksburg, a quaint German-settled town justl 25 miles away has several restaurants that serve authentic German dishes. I invite my readers to pay a visit to the beautiful Hill Country of Texas and sample delicious food and enjoying our Texas hospitality.

A Writer's Path

Nov 29, 2025 by Wanda J. McLaughlin

As a struggling writer, I want to share my path with others who face the blank screen and wonder if today they'll find the words to express their story. Occasionally, I'll include a flash fiction story, poem, or short story. I welcome your comments as I continue editing my second suspense novel, The Deadly Tide, for publication.
